Für $x,y\in ℝ$ gilt:

$|x|=\sqrt{x^2}$,

$|x|=|-x|$,

$|xy|=|x||y|$,

$y\ne 0⟹\left|\frac{x}{y}\right|=\frac{|x|}{|y|}$,

$|x+y|\le |x|+|y|$,

$|x-y|\ge ||x|-|y||$,

$|x|=0⟺x=0$.

Ableitung:

$x\ne 0⟹\frac{\mathrm{d}}{\mathrm{d}x}|x|=\mathrm{sgn}(x).$

$x=\mathrm{sgn}(x)|x|$,

$|x|=\mathrm{sgn}(x)x$,

$\mathrm{sgn}(-x)=-\mathrm{sgn}(x)$,

$\mathrm{sgn}(xy)=\mathrm{sgn}(x)\mathrm{sgn}(y)$,

$y\ne 0⟹\mathrm{sgn}\left(\frac{x}{y}\right)=\frac{\mathrm{sgn}(x)}{\mathrm{sgn}(y)}$,

$x\ne 0⟹\mathrm{sgn}\left(\frac{1}{x}\right)=\frac{1}{\mathrm{sgn}(x)}=\mathrm{sgn}(x)$,

$x\ne 0⟹\mathrm{sgn}(x)=\frac{x}{|x|}=\frac{|x|}{x}$.

Integral:

$|x|=\underset{0}{\overset{x}{\int }}\mathrm{sgn}(t)\mathrm{d}t.$

Maximumsfunktion

Minimumsfunktion
